I find it cute when Marios think that the F.L.U.D.D pack actually does something when it comes to edge-guarding.

it kinda does. if you get hit by the water you get sent back, so that gives mario enough time to try to go for a F-air or anything else.

Doesn't damage them, so they won't get their second jump or recovery back.

I've recovered getting sprayed even with Ganondorf.

Or maybe some players just use their recovery too early.

Or the Marios you play just suck and can't aim. That might be it too.
