Natural to it's roguelike nature, it's pretty brutal. I still enjoy the challenge it gives me.

I mainly grew up with Nintendo, really. I wouldn't know what to recommend for starters.

Mario Kart, Drill Dozer, all four super mario advance games, and Mario & Luigi come off the top of my head.
